New Developments at SEER

California's Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI)
SEER was recently engaged by the California Environmental Protection Agency and Integrated Waste Management Board
as the Principal Consultant for the implementation of the Education and the Environment Initiative [California Assembly Bill 1548 (Pavley, Chapter 665, Statutes of 2003)]. The initial phase of this work was completed in October, 2005.

In this role, SEER working with The Acorn Group, led the development of California's new "Environmental Principles and Concepts" and the development of a complete "Model Curriculum Plan" for science and history/social science.

SEER is currently working with the EEI's Model Curriculum Planning Committee (California Environmental Protection Agency, Integrated Waste Management Board, Department of Education, State Board of Education, Governor's Secretary of Education and Resources Agency) to design the Model Curriculum called for under this law.

Additional information about this groundbreaking new law is available from the Education and the Environment Initiative website http://www.calepa.ca.gov/Education/EEI/.

Greater Yellowstone EIC Model™ Demonstration Network
Thanks to a two-year $160,000 grant from the Turner Foundation Inc., the Idaho Environmental Education Association, Montana Environmental Education Association, and Wyoming Association for Environmental Education are partnering with SEER to develop the Greater Yellowstone EIC Model™ School Network. The project partners have committed significant organizational resources to this two-year effort and will guide the 12 participating schools as they develop and implement their EIC Model™ units. SEER will provide professional development, technical support and evaluation services for this three-state project.

Los Angeles County EIC Model™ Demonstration School
In late 2004, SEER was engaged by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works to develop an EIC Model™ School. Winnetka Elementary School in Canoga Park, California was chosen as the demonstration site. A team of nine teachers has received training in the EIC Model™ and will receive ongoing technical support from SEER's staff as they begin to implement the model.
